Interior design for the first store of ”TACHIGUI UMEBOSHI YA”, which opens in Tokyo Solamachi. Ten types of Umeboshi (dried pickled plums) carefully selected from across Japan are served with a cup of tea in the standing bar, which also sells bottled Umeboshi.

Considering the flow lines of customers who enjoy food and tea at the bar and the ones who buy the products, we arranged the counter in the rear of the shop and the fixtures to face the aisle outside of the shop. Using the same tone of the dyed lauan plywood for the fixtures provides consistency to various elements of different shapes. The symbolic tree installed to the counter is a plum tree cut down from a plum farm in Wakayama Prefecture for this project. The plum motifs on Ranma (Japanese traditional transom) and grips of fixtures represent the expertise of the brand. The shop curtains which hang on both sides of the opening and the custom-made neon sign attracts the attention of people walking down the shared passage. The Umeboshi sign with a customizable face expression, set above the center fixture, is a communication tool to give a friendly impression.

In the bustling environment with many shops, we aimed to create this space as the first store for the brand to improve brand recognition, and as a casual spot to drop in.
