北海道白老町の「自然と科学のミュージアム 森の工舎」で開催される「ようこそ！絵本のまちへ展」の会場構成。スキンケア製品を扱う、ナチュラルサイエンス・ナチュラルアイランドが運営する「ナチュの森」内にあるトラフが設計した森の工舎。本展は工舎の2階ギャラリーでの初の企画展となる。会場内では3人の絵本作家の作品を取り上げ、「絵本のまち」をテーマに、子どもも大人も五感を使って楽しめるような空間が求められた。
エントランスには白樺をイメージしたメインビジュアルのグラフィックとともに、木製の看板がゲートのように出迎える。ゲートを潜り抜けると右手に『からすのパンやさん』(作:かこさとし/偕成社刊)に登場するパン全種類を、直径4.5mの大きな円形テーブルの上に展示している。窓から見える白樺の森に、からすたちが飛んでいる姿は絵本の世界を想起させる。「『からすのパンやさん』つづきのおはなし」シリーズの４作品は屋台のように会場中央にならび、道を作っている。
たけうちちひろのコーナーでは、『みんなのいちにち』(作:たけうちちひろ/アリス館刊)の表紙の書き割りに、切り絵による絵本の世界が時間で変わる映像として投影される。
『シロクマくつや』(作:おおでゆかこ/偕成社刊)では、絵本の中に出てくる靴や靴箱が木の棚に並べられ、店内の様子が再現されている。雪を表現した丘の上には造作でつくられた大きな靴があり、背景となる絵本のグラフィックから飛び出してきたように見える。
周囲の自然環境に呼応しながら、絵本の世界との新たな関係を通じて、絵本の魅力を体感することが出来る展示構成を目指した。

We planned the exhibition space for “ Welcome ! to EHON Town”, held in morinokousha NATURE & SCIENCE MUSEUM in Shiraoi Town, Hokkaido. We designed MORINOKOSHA, which is located in “Natu no mori (Natural Science Garden)”, run by skincare company Natural Science/Natural Island. This is the first exhibition to be held in the 2nd floor gallery of KOSHA. In the venue, the works of three EHON (picture books) authors were featured. Under the theme of "EHON town", we were tasked to seek a space where both children and adults could enjoy all their senses.
A gate shaped wooden signboard with the main visual graphic inspired by white birch welcomes visitors through the entrance. Passing through, on the right hand side, visitors find all types of bread that appear in "Mr. Crow’s Bakery" (Author: Satoshi Kako/Publisher : KAISEI-SHA Ltd,) displayed on a large circular table with a diameter of 4.5m.
The crows flying in the white birch forest seen from the window reminds visitors of the EHON world.
The four EHON in the series "The Continuing Story of 'Mr. Crow’s Bakery'" are arranged in the center of the venue like stalls, creating a path. In the area of Chihiro Takeuchi, the graphic image expressing the world of her EHON is projected as moving images that change with time from the cover image of "All in a Day" (written by Chihiro Takeuchi/Publisher: Alice Kan).
"Shirokuma Kutsuya (Polar Bear’s Shoe Shop)" (Author: Ode Yukako/published by Kaiseisha) exhibits the shoes and shoeboxes that appear in the EHON on wooden shelves to recreate the interior of the shoe shop . On top of the snowy hill there is a pair of large artificial shoes, popping out from the EHON graphics that serve as the background.
We have aimed to create an exhibition space that invites visitors to experience the appeal of EHON through a new relationship with the EHON world while corresponding to the surrounding natural environment.
