東京ガーデンテラス紀尾井町で開催されている、118種のバラが咲き誇るROSE WEEK 2018の会場構成。イベントを象徴する大きなバラのモニュメントに対し、その周囲に人々の集える場所が求められた。そこで、大きなバラの下で、小人になったような気持ちで座ることが出来るベンチを考えた。バラの花びらを幾何学的に模したパターンの天板で、中央のバラのモニュメントを取り囲むように構成した。大きなベンチには天板の高さを少しずつ変えて、その下に間接照明を仕込んでおり、夜になると隙間から明かりが漏れてバラのパターンがより浮き上がる。背丈の低いバラのベンチには、艶のあるメラミンの天板をつかって風景を反射させ、思わず写真を撮りたくなるような効果を与えた。昼と夜とで異なる表情を見せる、フォトジェニックな場所を目指した。

We designed the venue for the ROSE WEEK 2018 event featuring 118 kinds of roses in full bloom held at the Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho. Deliverables included a space for attendees to gather around monumental roses symbolizing the event. Rose Benches enable the persons sitting on them to feel like Lilliputians under tall roses. The top plates are arranged in a geometrical pattern echoing the petals of a rose surrounding the rose objects in the center. By varying the height of the top plates incrementally and placing an indirect source of light below them, this pattern becomes even more visible at night due to the light escaping from the gaps between the petals. Moreover, benches placed under short roses prompt visitors to take pictures as their glossy melamine finish reflects the surrounding scenery. We sought to create a photogenic environment with different visual identities by day and by night.
