We were proud to present the “airvase workshop 2011” at Shibaura House, located in Shibaura Tokyo. We prepared a “Paper Stamp Kit” for the daily workshop, where visitors could join and create their original “airvase”. Shibaura House was designed with a distinctive spatial area that starts at the first floor, which works its way pass the second floor mezzanine and into the second floor, from which “airvases” were suspended, giving the entire building a sense of unity. From the high ceiling of the first floor, giant “airvases” were hanged, lending color and accent to an otherwise white space. A variety of workshops were held for both families and adults, while visitors had the chance to purchase sets of three designs from the 100 different limited edition “airvase” patterns available. The workshops for families were themed “Riding the airvase”. During these workshops, participants attach balloons to “airvases” which they have decorated with the stamp kit, in which a miniature photo-doll of themselves is placed. “Design airvases that change your perspective” was the theme for the adult workshops, where guest speakers were invited for panel discussions while participants had the chance to design original “airvases” using the stamp kits. We have given great consideration to new possibilities in design to capture a variety of perspectives from designing the 100 different patterns, thinking about the amplitude of scale throughout the exhibition, and various workshops and events.
