インテリアライフスタイルリビング2019の特別展示「アップサイクルって何？」に出展したソファ。
廃棄物を原材料やエネルギーとして再利用する「リサイクル」や、所有者を変えるなどして繰り返し使う「リユース」に対し、新たな視点やアイデアを加えて、魅力あるものを生み出す「アップサイクル」がテーマの展示に参加した。
ポリエチレン発泡体の工場見学の際、素材生成時に出る端材が大量に積まれているのを発見し、その断面の美しさが印象的だったため、これを利用して別の展示会向けにソファとして制作する機会を得た。今回の特別展示でも同様の着想に基づき、端材をカットして束ねるだけのカラフルなソファを考案した。

The sofas exhibited in the special showcase ‘What is upcycling?’ from IFFT/Interior Lifestyle Living 2019.In contrast to “recycling”, which reuses waste as raw materials and an energy source and “reuse”, which means changing the items’ owner and reusing them; the exhibition aimed to raise awareness of “upcycling”, which generates new aspects and ideas and turns items into something more attractive.We found a bunch of offcuts produced in material formation when visiting a factory of polyethylene foam material. For the other exhibition, we designed the sofas inspired by the impressive beauty of the offcuts’ cutaway. The successive idea from the exhibition gave us an opportunity to create these colorful sofas made with simply cut and gathered offcuts for this special showcase.
