大阪湾岸にオープンした、カフェやホテルを併設する「大阪北港マリーナ HULL」。その敷地内に、アップサイクルをテーマにしたエデュテインメント型公園「PARK HULL」を計画した。自由な発想で遊び、海辺の環境から未来への想像力を育むことを目的とし、大人も子供も楽しめる、好奇心をかき立てる新たな公園の形が求められた。
より自由度の高い遊びを受容できる場として、全体をひとつのランドスケープのように感じられる公園を提案した。円形のグラフィックは、点在する遊具や家具をランドスケープの一部としてつなぎ留める。子供たちの遊具としても機能するグラフィックは、その同心円上に置かれた遊具を一体につなぐ。グラフィックの青色は海と空を、冬場にはファイヤープレイスとなるサークルベンチや砂場の赤色は火や土をイメージしている。遊具もそれぞれの色に塗ることで一体化させ、大きなスケール感に対応した。
自由な発想で遊べる遊具「PLAYRING」は、体力やバランス感覚と共に、判断力も養える。廃材を活かした滑り台は、遊具であると同時に、アップサイクルされたオブジェでもある。もともと廃棄されていたポリエチレン発泡体の端材をカットし、束ねることでつくられた「もこもこソファ」はひと時の休憩の場となる。ビール酵母液肥を混ぜ込んだ“身体に良い”砂場は、衛生のスペシャリストによる新たな提案。また、海を望めるハンモックは大人のためのぜいたくな時間を演出する。同心円の線やグリッド状のグラフィックが幅広い用途を誘発し、使う人の発想を膨らませるきっかけとなることを考えた。
マリーナへの動線にもなるグラフィカルなランドスケープが、その先の広大な海を引き立たせ、湾岸に新たな風景をつくり出している。

Osaka Hokko Marina HULL, featuring a cafe and a hotel, opened on the coast of Osaka Bay. On that site, we planned an edutainment park "PARK HULL" with the theme of upcycling. Aiming to create a place where people play with free ideas and foster the imagination for the future from the seaside environment, we needed to seek a new park form which both adults and children can enjoy, and which arouses their curiosity.
So we proposed a park whose whole area can be regarded as a single landscape, as a place that can accommodate more free play. Circular graphics connect the scattered playground equipment and the furniture as part of the landscape. The graphics make the furniture placed in concentric circles, which also function as a children's playground, look like a part of the playground equipment. Blue represents the sea and the sky, while the red of sandbox with circle bench, that serves as a fireplace in winter, represents fire and earth.
The playground equipment which is also painted in different colors creates a sense of scale. The “PLAYRING”, playground equipment that allows children to play with their own ideas, contributes to developing their judgment as well as their physical strength and sense of balance. The slide made from recycled material is not only playground equipment, but also an upcycled object. The “MOKOMOKO SOFA”, made by offcuts of polyethylene foam material originally discarded, is a place for a rest. The “healthy” sandbox mixed with beer yeast liquid fertilizer is a new proposal by hygiene specialists.
The hammocks overlooking the sea provide a luxurious time for adults. We let the concentric lines and graphics on the grid provoke a wide range of uses and be a trigger to expand the users' ideas.
The graphical landscape which also leads users to the marina, highlights the vast ocean beyond, creating a new landscape on the coast.
