銀座 SHISEIDO THE STOREのウィンドウディスプレイ。 2018年の年間テーマである”木火土金水”の中の”水”がテーマとして与えられた。 展示時期がクリスマスのため、水の中でも「雪」をコンセプトに、藍師・染師BUAISOUとコラボレーションしウィンドウの空間演出を行った。 BUAISOUは、阿波藍の産地、徳島県上板町を拠点に、藍の栽培から染色、製作までを一貫して行っている。 中央通りのウインドウは、屋根に雪が積もったような家型のオブジェをつくった。金属の細いパイプを用いた、変形した家型のフレームに、藍で染められた屋根をかける。 藍染は白が際立つようなグラデーションを臈纈(ろうけつ)染めという技法を使用し、屋根に積もる雪の立体感を演出する。また、雪が地面に不定形な形で積もっている様子も表現している。 花椿通りのウインドウでは、染色した木や糸を使って作られた丸いパーツを繋ぎ合わせ、雪の結晶と雪だるまに見立てたオブジェをつくった。雪の結晶と雪だるまは、モビールのようにゆらゆらと揺れ、藍染の染め重ねによる濃淡や、裏表の素材の違いで、多彩な表情を見せる。 背景には暖色のメタリックなストライプを配し、無限の階調を持つ藍染のオブジェが際立つようなウインドウを目指した。

We created a window display for SHISEIDO THE STORE in Ginza under the theme of “water”, which is the annual theme of 2018 based on the five elements.
We produced the window space together in collaboration with the indigo dye and dye specialists BUAISOU and since the exhibition period is around Christmas, we focused on the concept of "snow." From Indigo cultivation to dyeing and production, BUAISOU oversees the whole process and is based in Kamiita Town, Tokushima Prefecture, the production area of Awa Indigo.
On Chuo-dori Street, we created a house-shaped object that appeared to have snow piled up on the roof. We placed an indigo-dyed roof on a modified house frame made using thin metal pipes.
For the indigo dye, we used a technique called Batik dyeing to make the white stand out in gradations and produce three-dimensional snow piled up on the roof. We also rendered the appearance of snow piled up irregularly on the ground.
On Hanatsubaki-dori Street, we made round parts using dyed wood and thread that are joined together and we made objects resembling crystallized snow and snowmen. The crystallized snow and snowmen sway back and forth like they are mobiles, and they show a diverse range of expression through the light and shade due to accumulated layers of indigo dye and differences in the materials on the front and back.
We aimed to create a window display that would accentuate the warm-colored metallic stripes arranged in the background and the indigo-dyed objects with its infinite tones.
